Richard Wagner
Das Rheingold
Theo Adam, Sigmund Nimsgern, Peter Schreier, Yvonne Minton, Lucia Popp, Ortrun Wenkel, Christan Vogel, Matti Salminen, Karl-Heinz Stryczek, Eberhard Büchner, Roland Bracht, Marita Napier etc.
Staatskapelle Dresden
Marek Janowski
When this recording first came out it had a lukewarm reception but, over the years, a significant respect has been generated as the subtlety of the performance has begun to be appreciated. The cast are excellent with Bohm's Bayreuth recording's Wotan (Theo Adam) as Alberich! The recording is spacious with a recessed quality to it. Janowski avoids any histrionics but, instead, gives a good solid and almost chamber interpretation of the opening to Wagner's epic.
Recorded: 1980

To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
