Richard Wagner
Götterdämmerung
Ludwig Suthaus, Alfred Poell, Alois Pernerstorfer, Josef Greindl, Martha Mödl, Sena Jurinac, Margareta Klose, Magda Gabory, Hilde Rössl–Majdan
Chorus and Orchestra of RAI, Rome
Wilhelm Furtwängler
(October, November 1953)
There are two Furtwängler Wagner ‘Ring’ cycles which were committed to disc. The first is a cut version which was recorded from a live performance at La Scala, Milan and the second from Rome which is complete. This LP set is from the live Rome radio broadcast and fields an excellent cast. As the relay was split up into one act a week (the Wagner Soap!), the singers are always sounding fresh. The sound is clear but rather flat and the balance favours the singers however, the orchestra is never far away. This is a very important sound document as there is no complete recording of any of the ‘Ring’ under him from Germany. This set is without a box but we will include a box from another set to protect it and to keep the vinyl discs together.
Recorded: 1953
Booklet contains a libretto in German/English
EMI RLS 705

- owing to their weight, the postal charge for LP's is expensive.
- our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
