Gustav Mahler
Symphony No.9
Columbia Symphony Orchestra
Bruno Walter
This set also includes Two Portraits of Bruno Walter: A Talking Portrait (on the occasion of his 80th birthday) and A Working Portrait containing rehearsal excerpts for this recording.
This is probably the most authoritative performance of Mahler’s ‘Symphony No 9’ ever to be committed to disc. Walter was a close friend of the composer and conducted the premiere after Mahler’s death. The recording is a remarkable achievement and the close, stereo sound is magnificent. One can hear Walter groaning along to the odd bar and his famous stamping in the second movement is a delight even if it is not in the music. As an extra there is an additional LP which contains on one side a fascinating interview with the Great Man and on the other, sound clips of Walter rehearsing this Symphony. This is a highly recommended recording and performance from a Mahler Master.

Our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
