Richard Wagner
Parsifal
Good Friday Spell (Act 3)
Symphonic Synthesis of Act 3 (arr. Stokowski)
The Valkyrie
Wotan's Farewell and Magic Fire Music (Act 3)
Houston Symphony Orchestra
Leopold Stokowski
As with most Stokowski recordings - you either love or hate them. This is even more so with his treatment of Wagner. The Good Friday Spell of 'Parsifal' is actually orchestrated by Wagner but Stokowski isn't content with that -so he has a go at working Act 3 into a 'Synthesis'. The only problem is that the bells of Montsalvat are hysterically funny which is hardly in keeping with Wagner's Swan Song (if you forgive the pun). Wotan's Farewell and Fire Music is treated a little more straight forward but Stokowski does tend to pull the tempi around a little. All in all this is a fun LP which, doubtless, Stokowski lovers will shout at me and rush to defend. The sound is full and warm and the Bells? Well, they are so overrecorded that it makes the fun even greater.

Our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
