Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture
Francesca da Rimini
Philharmonia Orchestra
Carlo Maria Giulini
EMI's warm sound adds enormously to Giulini's powerful yet lyrical reading of these two Tchaikovsky works. He never stints of the drama of each of the items yet he always has an eye on the romantic aspects of the works. Never one to go for the obvious, Giulini, by playing the scores 'straight', brings out many details which often elude other conductors. As ever, the Philharmonia sound superb and respond to their conductor with obvious affection. Just be aware that this is an American pressing from a time when their pressings could be a little slap dash.

Our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
