Edvard Grieg
Piano Concerto in A Minor
Robert Schumann
Piano Concerto in A Minor
Hans Richter-Haaser, piano
Vienna Symphony Orchestra
Rudolf Moralt
Hans Richter-Haaser is now almost forgotten but, in his time, he was a master of the keyboard. Known for his sensitive approach to concerti, he managed to bring out emotions in works which often eluded other great pianists. These two concerti are a case in point. There is no flashy playing or showing off but warm and highly emotional interpretations which never flag or sound dreary. The Vienna Symphony under Moralt (another forgotten Master) add superb support and, although the recording sounds a little dated (1958), the balance between the soloist and orchestra is very good.

To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
