Gustav Mahler
Symphony No. 3
Shirley Verrett, mezzo soprano
New England Conservatory Chorus
Boston Boychoir
Boston Symphony Orchestra
Erich Leinsdorf
For some odd reason, which really confuses me, Leinsdorf's Mahler recordings have never received the recognition which they deserve. This LP set of the 'Symphony No 3 is powerfully delivered and the orchestra responds wonderfully to Leinsdorf's reading. The interpretation is full blooded and spacious without sacrificing the louder portions of the score. Verrett's smooth sinigng of the 4th Movement is especially effective. The recorded sound is excellent. I love this interpretation and always return to it again and again.
The main reason for obtaining this particular copy is that Erich Leinsdorf has autographed the back cover of both records. Dave met Leinsdorf many times and, although a little distant, he was an engaging man who had plenty of time for his fans. This particular autograph was collected outside the Festival Hall, London.
Both record covers contain autographs of Erich Leinsdorf

To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
