Gustav Mahler
Symphony No. 6
Alban Berg
Le Vin
Phyllis Curtin, soprano
Boston Symphony Orchestra
Erich Leinsdorf
For some odd reason, which really confuses me, Leinsdorf's Mahler recordings have never received the recognition which they deserve. This LP set of the 'Symphony No 6' is powerfully delivered and the orchestra responds wonderfully to Leinsdorf's reading. The interpretation may be a little underplayed by the modern trends of conducting but Leinsdorf gives the Symphony a wonderful inner life and the recorded sound is excellent. I love this interpretation and always return to it again and again. As the symphony takes three sides to commit to disc, RCA have given us Berg's 'Le Vin' ('Der Wein') for the fourth side. Phyllis Curtin sings the Cycle with acting style and Leinsdorf is totally sympathetic with Berg's music.
The main reason for obtaining this particular copy is that Erich Leinsdorf has autographed the front of the libretto. Dave met Leinsdorf many times and, although a little distant, was an engaging man who had plenty of time for his fans. This particular autograph was collected outside the Festival Hall, London.
The enclosed booklet contains the autograph of Erich Leinsdorf
Please note that we are prepared to sell the booklet separately in which case the postage costs will be adjusted accordingly.
