Richard Wagner
Der fliegende Holländer (Excerpts)
Josef Metternich, Anneliese Kupper, Wolfgang Windgassen, Josef Greindl, Sieglinde Wagner, Ernst Haefliger
RIAS Chamber Choir
RIAS Symphony Orchestra, Berlin
Ferenc Fricsay
This LP is extremely puzzling as it is a highly truncated version of 'Der Fliegende'. The overture begins splendidly but we only get the opening. Eric's (Windgassen) 2 arias are here but Daland (Greindl) almost disappears from the opera. Almost everything is cut into little pieces and reassembled into a sampler style presentation. Even the front of the cover is odd as they mention Sieglinde Wagner, the hardly heard Mary, yet not a hint of Josef Metternich who sings the title role. The recording is typical of DGG in the 1950s. This one is only for the dedicated Wagnerian.
Cover contains a commentary in English

Our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
