Gustav Mahler
Symphony No.1 (including the original second movement 'Blumine')
Philadelphia Orchestra
Eugene Ormandy
Ormandy's version of Mahler's 'Symphony No 1' is best labelled as 'solid'. Ormandy avoids the flashy approach and, by selecting a fairly brisk pace, reveals another side to the work. The main interest in this performance is the fact that Ormandy reinstalls the rejected original 2nd Movement thus making the Symphony into a five movement work. After hearing this delightful addition, one can easily see why Mahler removed it as it does seem a little at odds with the rest of the symphony - however, it is fascinating to hear it as Mahler first conceived the work.

Our records have always been handled with care and stored correctly. However as we are disposing of our entire record collection, time precludes us playing every single item to check whether there are any faults that are not apparent from a purely visual check. To avoid any dispute buyers should be aware that they buy our vinyl with the above proviso in mind.
